I started meditating about one year ago. I was first introduced to the idea from one of the coach training courses I’ve completed, the Quantum Success Coaching Academy (QSCA). The QSCA program included many bonuses, such as the Abundance Principle Coaching Program and the Divine Manifesting System by Christy Whitman.

These two programs have similar structure. They included daily activities for 40-50 days straight, like: daily statement/affirmation (different one each day); meditation for at least 15 minutes; journal daily thoughts; visualization for at least 2 minutes; list 10 things I’m grateful for; VAKS exercise; and list 3 actions I will take today.

For the Abundance Program, I recorded myself saying the daily statement, then used the Omvana app to have the audio looped with background music. For the Divine Manifesting System, I would just meditate on the daily statement quietly, or with background music from Pandora One, Calm Meditation Radio station.

I’ve also experienced meditation using the Oprah and Deepak free experiences. This program is offered every few months and it includes a 21-day guided meditation experience on various topics, such as health, happiness, and freedom.

For me, meditating for 15 minutes felt like a challenge, and still sometimes does. But I’ve been amazed at the results I’ve experienced.

My results: I have noticed greater feelings of peace, relaxation, abundance, and wisdom. Sitting with the stillness has also provided me with inspirations and a knowingness that I do have all the answers within me. Meditation allows me to step back and observe without anxiety or drama. The broader perspective of my life has provided strength, awareness, empowerment and choice in my life.

Today, I am continuing to use some of the other QSCA bonus meditation courses, but I am planning on creating my own soon, which will also be shared with my life coaching clients.

According to the QSCA, “Meditation is the art of silencing the mind. When the mind is silent, concentration is increased and we experience inner peace in the midst of worldly turmoil.”

These are some of the benefits of meditation:

  • 1. Improved concentration – A clear mind makes you more productive, especially in creative disciplines like writing.
  • 2. Less bothered by little things – Do you sometimes allow yourself to get upset by little things? It is the nature of the mind to magnify small things into serious problems. Meditation helps you detach. You learn to live in the here and now, rather than worrying about the past or future. You do not worry about meaningless things, but see the bigger picture.
  • 3. Better health – There have been numerous studies pointing to the health benefits of meditation. The reason is that meditation reduces stress levels and alleviates anxiety. If you can reduce stress, many health benefits follow.
  • 4. Knowledge of the self – “Meditation enables you to have a deeper understanding of your inner self. Through meditation you can gain a better understanding of your life’s purpose.

I recently came home from a Mastermind (MM) conference in San Diego put on for the Certified Coaches from The Life Coach School, the other Coaching School I completed. At the MM, we experienced a great presentation from the author of the book, The Practicing Mind, Thomas M. Sterner. Both in the presentation and the book itself, Sterner talks about the purpose of meditating as a way to still our mind and thoughts. By purposefully allowing stillness through meditation, this is how we become more aware of our thoughts in order to master them.
